AI job search with Claude Code

Use Claude Code as an AI job search agent: career-ops scans job boards, scores listings against your CV and drafts your applications. You decide and send.

You can run your job search with Claude: career-ops turns Claude Code into an AI job search agent that runs in your terminal. It scans company job boards, scores each listing against your CV, tailors your resume, and drafts cover letters and your application answers. It evaluates and drafts; you decide and send. It never applies in your name. It also runs in Codex, OpenCode and other AI coding CLIs.

How to run career-ops in Claude Code

career-ops loads into Claude Code through the CLAUDE.md file in the project folder. The Quick Start covers the installation. One extra step, once: add the Playwright browser tools that confirm a listing is still live, with /plugin install playwright@claude-plugins-official inside Claude Code. The startup check (node doctor.mjs) warns you if they are missing. The installation also downloads the browser used for PDFs and scan --verify; if that step was skipped, run npx playwright install chromium.

  • Interactive: open the career-ops folder, run claude, then type /career-ops.
  • Batch: run it headless with claude -p "prompt". The batch runner starts its workers without browser tools, so they cannot confirm that a listing is still live, and the report says so.

What it costs

career-ops itself is free and MIT-licensed. Claude Code is not: it needs a paid Claude plan or an Anthropic API key.

If ANTHROPIC_API_KEY is set in your environment, Claude Code bills per token even when you also pay for Claude Pro or Max. The FAQ explains why and how to check.

If you would rather not pay for an engine at all, career-ops runs on free providers through OpenCode. See Set up a free AI engine.

What it does, and what it leaves to you

Each listing gets a global score from 1 to 5: a holistic judgement guided by five dimensions, not a weighted formula. Below 4.0, it recommends against applying unless you have a specific reason. For the listings worth pursuing it tailors your resume, drafts a cover letter and drafts answers to the application's open questions.

Then it stops. You review what it drafted, edit it, and submit the application yourself. It never applies in your name.

The first runs are rough. It does not know you yet. Talk to it: your CV, what you want, what you refuse.

Prefer another CLI?

career-ops also runs in Cursor, Codex, OpenCode, Antigravity CLI, Grok Build CLI, Qwen, Kimi, Hermes Agent and GitHub Copilot CLI. How you start it differs by CLI: see Supported CLIs for how each one loads it.

Where it came from

I built career-ops for my own 2026 job search. My funnel: 740 evaluated → 68 applied → 12 interviews → 1 offer. — Santiago Fernández de Valderrama Aparicio
